Course Description
Health Canada passed new WHMIS regulations in January 2023, changing the previous WHMIS/GHS 2015 Hazardous Products Regulations.
This training program’s main objective is to ensure compliance with these new WHMIS/GHS standards and increase your knowledge of controlled products in the workplace and their safe handling practices.
This course will teach you the following:
• The purpose of WHMIS/GHS 2023 is to maintain workplace safety.
• The updated WHMIS/GHS 2023 standards outline the legal obligations set forth by the Hazardous Products Act and Hazardous Products Regulations, detailing the responsibilities of employers, workers, and suppliers.• Recognize and comprehend the various hazard classes and their related risks.
• Comprehend the WHMIS/GHS 2023 symbols and pictograms used for classifying hazardous materials.
• Identify possible health effects of exposure to controlled products.
• Learn safe handling practices for hazardous materials, including the use of suitable personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Comprehend the information presented on supplier and workplace labels.
• Comprehend the information provided in Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
This training course discusses:
- Information on safety data sheets (SDS’s) and labels and how to read and assess this information.
- Worker rights and responsibilities for use and in emergencies.
- WHMIS Classification, symbols, and pictograms.
This WHMIS course implements the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) standard for hazard classification and communication. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and understanding necessary to answer the following questions:
- What hazardous products could I be exposed to?
- Where do I find information about the hazards of these products?
- How do I protect myself?
- What should I do if an incident occurs?

Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available to download and print.
Course Duration
Approximately 2 hours
Pass Mark
Testing conducted throughout this online WHMIS/GHS 2023 course is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 70% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are able to repeat the course two times if the pass mark is not achieved on the first attempt. Print materials for this course can be accessed online.
